We waited a long time for our small Angraecum sesquipedale to grow and finally bloom- 5 years. But it was worth it. Spectacular! The powerful scent fills the room late at night with a Jasmine-like fragrance, but ever more cleaner and lighter, more like an expensive perfume.
Angraecum sesquipedale is an interesting orchid; often called "Darwin's Orchid", the orchid feature's a long nectar vessel as part of the flower. When Darwin first discovered the orchid in Madegascar, he speculated that there must a moth or insect with a very long proboscis that pollenates the flower because the nectar vessel is up to eighteen inches long. He was right. It's the Sphinx Moth.
