This is quickly becoming my favorite. The fragrance from this orchid is completely soothing and relaxing.
Fragrant at night, a charming primary hybrid between the Central and South American species Brassavola nodosa, and the Jamaican native Brassavola cordata. Brassavola Orchids are native to Central Mexico, the Carribbean, Venezula and Peru. We've seen these have over six flowers on a spike! Intermediate growing. January - February blooming.
We are nearing the end of the blooming season for many of the orchids in our collection, save for the Cattleyas which are late spring, early summer bloomers. This one, Cat Potinara Fordyce Prelude "First Act" is spectacular. No scent, but the blush reminds one of cling peaches. Last year, we had only one bloom on this orchid, but this year, we have SIX!!!!

This lovely slipper orchid, Paphiopedlium "Ruby Mist" is a stunning addition to our Orchid Show collection here at Sage this month. It was difficult to photograph; it's coloring is so rich, and dark.
Went shopping today on 28th St in the city, and stumbled upon these blue orchids. They are so blue that they looked dyed, but they are real, natural, vibrant blue, and amazing. I understand that they are all the rage in Europe, probably will be a big seller in America too. Still, these flowers are bit too amazing for my taste. They look extremely fake especially when sitting next to any other living plant. Irradiated perhaps?
So I was wondering, how did they this orchid get this blue? These white orchids's roots were injected with metallic silver. It's similar to what happened when Paul Karason ingested copious amounts of silver oxide to combat dermatitis and his FACE turned permanently blue. The orchids? Botanists say that if bred, they would fade back to their original white after three generations.
