I've been a fan of getting massage for a lot of years now so it's logical that I would have a 20-year career as a massage therapist and end up opening my own spa. I am always up for trying new therapies as each one has something unique to offer towards my wellbeing. I have tried the usual Swedish massage, deep tissue massage (great for when a really cranky area is bothering you), shiatsu (great for emotional balancing), craniosacral, Trager, flotation tanks (not massage but just throwing it in to give you an idea of how far I'll go to get relaxed!). I also had one memorable experience doing Watsu, shiatsu in and under water, in a hot spring in Harbin, California. My latest find is hot stone massage and I'm so excited about it that I've had my staff trained to do it here at Sage and we are offering it now.
This therapy uses very hot volcanic stones alternating with hands-on massage by the therapist to offer wonderful benefits. The heat relaxed my muscles and then the hot hands of the therapist took it even a step further. I especially like this therapy now that the weather has turned colder. Who would it not be good for? People who don't like heat! Some of us, like my husband David, are naturally warm. (He makes the perfect personal heater for me:) Others of us are like cats, ready to snuggle up to anything that radiates heat. I hope those of you who are on the cold side will give this new and exciting therapy a try.- Susan
